129 Public health and Medical authorities urge WHO to investigate the safety of e-cigarettes

Medicines Made in India Set Off Safety Worries

 India, the second-largest exporter of over-the-counter and prescription drugs to the United States, is coming under increased scrutiny by American regulators for safety lapses,  falsified drug test results and selling fake medicines.

Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg, the commissioner of the United States Food and Drug Administration, arrived in India this week to express her growing unease with the safety of Indian medicines because of “recent lapses in quality at a handful of pharmaceutical firms.”

Novartis Recalls Millions Of Samples Due To Packaging Glitch

Here is a headache no drugmaker wants to endure. Last July, Novartis began recalling a few million bottles of samples of different medicines that were distributed to physicians, because routine testing determined that a chemical used in shrink wrap packaging was found to leech into some tablets. The incident appears to be an unusual instance in which samples given to doctors have been yanked.

China: Authorities seize fake drugs and tonnes of raw materials as part of government crackdown

China's police on Saturday announced that over 1,300 people have been arrested as suspects involved in illegal drug sales online amid a special crackdown. Chinese police launched a special combat, including three intensive raids, against illegal online drug sales and sales of fake drugs since June this year and to date police forces in 29 provincial-level regions have closed 140 unlicensed websites and online drug stores, according to a statement by the Ministry of Public Security.
